Microsoft Teams

This document contains help and information about Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams is a tool for remote team communication and collaboration. It improves on many features of email by adding threaded conversations, organization (via channels), persistent & asynchronous direct messaging, audio and video calling, and file sharing. Teams provides desktop and mobile apps for flexibility during your workday.

All University of Illinois employees and students have access to Microsoft Teams as a part of Office 365.

How do I install Microsoft Teams?

You can download the client version at: https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads. Mobile versions of the app are available for iOS and Android. Teams is also available on the web at teams.microsoft.com.

Can I create my own Teams?

Yes, any faculty, staff, or student can create their own teams. We recommend that teams be created by the leader of the unit or group and that ownership is shared with at least two members for continuity. If you would like to automate membership of a Team, please contact the IT Partners @ Gies Help Desk - helpdesk@business.illinois.edu

We encourage you to be intentional about organization when creating Teams. A channel of an existing Team or a group chat might make more sense for specific use cases, rather than creating another Team. Feel free to reach out to the Help Desk for guidance!

Is there a college-wide team on Microsoft Teams?

Yes, there is a team for all Gies College of Business faculty and staff. If you're not already a member, you can request to join
