Endpoint Services, MECM, Resolve failed 'Install Application' task sequence step


If your 'Install Application' step fails with ‘NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate)’ in the smsts.log of your unit's task sequence, follow the steps below to repair the task sequence step.

Resolve failed 'Install Application' task sequence steps

  • Follow this guide to confirm the 'NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate)’ error is present in the task sequence's smsts.log file

  • Contact EPS to report the issue as this may affect other units' task sequences that install this application

  • Navigate to \Software Library\Overview\Operating Systems\Task Sequences\UIUC-YourUnit, select the respective task sequence and select 'Edit' from the top

  • Record the configuration of the problematic 'Install Application' task sequence step, including the 'Options' tab

  • Delete the old 'Install Application' task sequence step

  • Click OK to save the task sequence, then select 'Edit' to open the task sequence again

  • Click on 'Add' at the top and navigate to Software --> Install Application

  • Click and drag the new step to the appropriate location, and configure the step

  • Select the 'Options' tab and select the 'Continue on error' checkbox

  • Click OK to save the task sequence

  • Wait 15 minutes before running the task sequence
