Skype for Business, Signing In with a Role-Based Account

Many offices have a front desk or shared space where the main phone line rings. Student workers and other part-time staff may sign in with a role-based account instead of an individual number. This guide will demonstrate how to sign in to Skype for Business (SfB) with a role-based account and how to check the voicemail in the SfB desktop client.

Sign in the front desk computer as yourself

Open Skype for Business from the Applications list. Note: it will start automatically on sign-in after the first use.

In the "Sign-in address" field, enter the email address of the role-based account and choose "Sign In"

SfB login window

Enter the role-based account password

The main client screen will list contacts and show their availability, i.e. Away, Available, In a Meeting, etc.

To check voicemail messages, select the dial-pad icon

Select a voicemail from the list, RIGHT-click, and select "Play"

That's it!

Signing out of Windows will automatically sign out the phone, as well.
