Zoom: Polls

This article explains how to create and manage polls in Zoom.

Please note: polls can only be launched from the Zoom software (i.e., the app), it will not work in a browser.

You can use the "polling" option to ask the class a question and then display those results to the class. To start a poll during an active meeting or class, follow the instructions below.

  1. The Polls/Quizzes button is in the bottom meeting/control panel between the "Show Captions" and "Breakout Rooms" buttons.

    If the Polls/Quizzes button is not present, you may need to select the three dots icon ("More") from the meeting/control panel and select Polls/Quizzes from the drop-down menu.

  2. A window will pop up. Select the blue Create button.

  3. From the next page, you will be able to re-title your poll and enter your first question.

    • Question type: You can change the question type by selecting the drop-down menu next to the text box for the question. This can be changed from single choice to multiple choice, matching, rank order, short answer, long answer, fill in the blank, or rating scale.

    • Order: You can change the order of the question options as well as the order of the questions. To change the order of the questions, select the pancake menu in the top right corner. Hover over the question you want to move, then click and drag to move it. Select the X in the upper right corner to go back to the previous page.

    • Preview / quiz / anonymous responses: Select the three dots icon in the lower left corner. You can select Preview to see how the poll will look to meeting attendees (select Create to go back to editing your poll), click Make it a quiz to turn the poll into a quiz, or click Require answers to be anonymous to maintain privacy.

  4. When you are done creating your poll, click the blue Save button in the lower right corner.

  5. You will be brought back to the main Polls/Quizzes pop-out window. If needed, you can go back to editing the poll by selecting the 3 dots icon next to your poll's title.

  6. If you hover over the poll you just created, a blue button titled Launch will appear and you can click this to launch your poll. If you need to edit the poll again,

  7. After you click Launch and students have finished answering the poll, you will have the option to show the class the results by clicking Share Results in the lower right corner of the Polls/Quizzes window.
