Windows, Recommended Privacy Settings

This article will teach you how to adjust privacy settings in Windows 10.

Windows 10 Settings offers Privacy settings. Here are the recommendations from IT Partners @ Gies Help Desk.

Open Settings

In the Windows search bar, type "Settings" and open the Settings app

Type "Settings" in Windows search bar to open settings app

Select Privacy

Select privacy option shown with a lock icon

Go through each Privacy category and set according to these recommendations:

General: Toggle off all settings except "Let websites provide locally relevant content by accessing my language list"

Windows Privacy Settings General tab only toggled on is websites access language list

Speech: Toggle off the speech settings to prevent voice dictation for the speech recognition app

Speech recognition setting toggled off to prevent voice dictation

Inking & typing personalization: Toggle off inking and typing to switch off the personal dictionary and leave the standard dictionary

Inking & Typing Personalization toggled off to prevent personal dictionary and leave standard dictionary

Diagnostics & feedback: Toggle off "Tailored experiences"

Diagnostics & feedback toggled off and no options clicked to prevent data from being sent to microsoft

Activity history: Uncheck "Store my activity history on this device" and "Send my activity history to Microsoft" and toggle off activities from accounts

Activity History toggled off and nothing clicked to prevent activity history being stored on device or sent to Microsoft
