Canvas@Illinois, Global Announcements Policy

An overview of Global Announcements and how they can be used in Canvas.

Global announcements are a communication tool integrated into the Canvas learning management system. Canvas global announcements should be restricted to content specific to the support and operations of the Canvas service, such as planned outages, support opportunities, or new features. Other considered topics include instructional-related information directly relevant to instructors and/or students pertaining to their courses. Canvas announcements cannot be used for surveys or research purposes without prior approval through the Student Affairs Research Approval process.  Only a limited number of approvals for institutional surveys are granted per year.

Global announcements can reach all users of Canvas, regardless of assigned role in the LMS, or the intended audience can be selected from the various roles included in Canvas.

For future requests, units and their representatives should submit a Help Desk ticket to consult@Illinois.edu that includes the desired content, intended audience, and time frame. This request can then be delivered to the Teaching and Learning Technologies Group for consideration, with ultimate posting decision being left to the manager of the group.
