Illinois AnyWare, Install or Update an Application

The software available on the General Desktop and the Graphics Desktop are intended for teaching and learning. If an application is not available, please submit a software request form and we will do our best to provide it.

Before software can be added to the desktops, it must be approved and tested for compatibility with our system. We do our best to deploy apps within 2 weeks, but factors outside our control may push that date back. 

New Software

For new software, we will do our best to meet the 2 week timeline. If licenses are required, they must be provided by the requester, but please reach out to us first if possible - not all software can be provided through AnyWare.

Upgrades to Existing Software

For class software, we generally wait on major version updates (e.g. 1.x -> 2.x or 2025 -> 2026) until semester breaks because newer major versions may break compatibility with older versions and/or interfaces may change, which could impact instructors and classes using that software. Minor updates (e.g. X.2 -> X.4 or 2026.1 -> 2026.5) will usually be applied during our regular monthly updates. Security patching may cause us to alter this schedule, but we will minimize disruptions to class software availability as much as possible.
