Identity Management, ZJUI Students

ZJUI (Zhejiang University - UIUC Institute) is a partnership between Zhejiang University in China and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Participants of this institute are engineering students at Zhejiang University in China and can take classes taught by UIUC faculty. You can read all about their program here and here.

They are input in the system after the program receives the list of incoming freshmen from the administrator in China. As a general rule, they don’t actually register for classes at UIUC until their junior year.

During the junior year, the same administrator in China then sends our Registrar's Office the class rosters after the drop/add date in China so that they won’t have to move them around much and the registrar inputs all of those registrations by hand. At that point they do show up as registered students, with a student type.

Student Account Activation

Since ZJUI students typically do not register for classes at UIUC until their Junior year, a lot of them do not claim their NetIDs until two years after the accounts were created. This leads to confusion as their activation codes had expired and they couldn't claim. These students will need their activation codes reset. See Identity Management, NetID Activation Token Expired.

Those that did claim but didn't register for classes (which they don't do until Junior year) would get deactivated as a part of our usual process for inactive students. These students' accounts will get reactivated after their class enrollment processes. Similar to returning students, there is a delay of a couple days since the information needs to sync over from Banner/EDW.

If needed, the Engineering Administration department can sponsor the accounts to keep them enabled until the student affiliation is active. They can do this via the Affiliate Tool.
