U of I Box - Collaborating with non-UIUC Box accounts

To collaborate with someone outside of the U of I Box environment on a document or folder the other person will need to have a Box account associated with the e-mail address that you list as a collaborator.
  1. When adding a person outside of UIUC as a collaborator you will need to first list their email address and the appropriate level of collaboration on the folder or document being shared

  2. Once you have listed their email address as a collaborator the other person should receive an email message that they have been invited to collaborate on a document.

  3. The outside collaborator will need to login to Box using an account that is associated with the email address that you shared with in the first step. (They will need to choose "Not Part of the University of Illinois" when prompted to do so)

If the person you are sharing with does not already have a Box account either personally or through their institution they will need to create a free account that will allow them to login to Box.  Once they are logged in using the same email address that was used when you added them as a collaborator the shared folder or document will be available to them.
