Index Code Convention
For grants and contracts purposes, the only parts of the FOAPAL string that are used are the Fund, Organization and Program elements. Account codes in research accounting are handled manually, so the Account element part of the FOAPAL is not represented in the index code. Sponsored project index codes begin with the five-digit grant code. The sixth position is alphanumeric and sequentially represents the number of index codes created for each grant code.
