Clearing Cache on Web Browser

This document outlines how to clear the Cache inside the most commonly used web browsers.

What is the cache?

Web browsers store data from websites to improve the page load times and improve a users experience. When a website is updated, this stored data can run into conflicts with the changes made. When this happens, websites can begin functioning improperly. Clearing the cached data often resolves issues experienced in web browsers.

Keyboard Shortcuts:

Many browsers utilize keyboard shortcuts to quickly access the pages and tools that can clear your browsers cached data. A common keyboard shortcut is: Ctrl + Shift + Delete. Try using this keyboard shortcut. If it does not allow you to clear the browser cache, follow the instructions below.

Reminder: Close and restart your browser after clearing the cache to ensure the process is completed.

Google Chrome

1.   Select the menu button at the top right of Chrome. (Three dots; pictured below)

2.   Towards the bottom of the menu, select History.

3.   Select the menu button at the top left next to History. (Three lines; pictured below)

4.   Select Delete browsing data.

5.   Ensure that Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files are checked (pictured below). Select Delete data.

6.   Restart your browser.

 

Mozilla Firefox

1.   Select the menu button on the top right of the browser window. (Three horizontal lines)

2.   Select History.

3.   Select Clear Recent History...

4.   Change Time range to clear/When to Everything.

5.   Ensure that Cookies and site data and Temporary cached files and pages are checked.

6.   Select Clear/OK.

7.   Restart your browser.

 

Microsoft Edge

1.   Click the menu button at the top right corner of the browser and select Settings. (pictured below)

2.   Click the three horizontal bars next to "Settings" in the top left of the settings page.

3.   Select Privacy, search, and services on this left side menu.

4.   Select Choose what to clear under the "Clear browsing data" section.

5.   Ensure Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files are checked.

6.   Select Clear now.

7.   Restart your browser.

 

Internet Explorer

1.   Select the gear icon in the top right corner.

2.   Select Internet options.

3.   Under the General tab, under the Browsing history section, select Delete...

4.   Ensure that Temporary Internet files and website files and Cookies and website data.

5.   Select Delete.

6.   Restart your browser.

 

Safari (MacOS)

1.   Click on Safari on the top menu bar.

2.   Click Settings.

3.   Click on the Privacy tab.

4.   Click Manage Website Data...

5.   Click Remove All.

6.   Click Remove Now

7.   Select Safari on the top menu bar and select Quit.

8.   Restart your browser.
