macOS Application Sources
There are three primary sources for deploying macOS applications in Jamf Pro:
- Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP): Applications purchased by the Endpoint Services team via Apple School Manager (ASM) are targeted at computer groups directly in Jamf Pro. This is the preferred method for apps available in the Mac App Store.
- Jamf App Catalog: Jamf provides a curated library of pre-configured, auto-updating macOS applications. These can be deployed without needing to upload or maintain packages manually.
- Custom Package Installer (.pkg): For applications not available in VPP or the Jamf App Catalog, IT Pros can deploy software using standard macOS
.pkg
installers uploaded to Jamf Pro. This method is commonly used for licensed, custom, or niche applications.
Before creating a new policy or workflow, determine whether an item already exists at the global level.
