Faculty Self-Editing: Folder Structure Guide
Overview
Each video lesson is self-contained in its own folder.
All files related to a single video are stored together.
This makes it easier to:
- Edit videos efficiently
- Share files with the production team
- Avoid missing or misplaced assets
Top-Level Folder Structure
This entire folder structure (as a .zip file) will be available for you to download from your course’s Box folder. Ask your Digital Media Producer for a link to the exact location. You will download the .zip file, uncompress it, and then the folder structure will be established on your local hard drive.
When you've uncompressed the zip file, the parent folder will be titled "Rubric # Year_Last Name - Faculty-Produced". Please rename this folder with the appropriate rubric number, year of development, and your last name. For example "BADM 225 2026_Smith - Faculty-Produced"
The first subfolder will be:
- Lessons
- There is also a .rft file with guidelines on File Naming Conventions for your easy reference

Where You Will Work
All of your work will happen in:
Lessons → Module # → M#L# (represents Module#Lesson#)
Within each Module # folder you will find:
- M#L# (a subfolder template for each individual video lesson; copy this folder as necessary for more lessons; the first lesson has been created already for each Module [M1L1])
- Adobe Premiere project file (.prproj)
- Auto-save files (you can ignore this)

Lesson-Level Organization
Each lesson folder (e.g., M1L1) contains everything needed for that specific video:
- M1L1
- B-Roll [supplemental video footage from stock libraries such as Storyblocks or Adobe Stock]
- Graphics (Animations & Slides)
- Animations
- Slides (PNGs)
- Recordings

What Goes in Each Folder
B-Roll
- Supplemental footage
- Screen recordings not used as main content (not included in Zoom or DIY recording)
Graphics (Animations & Slides)
- Animations
- Custom animations not included in PPT slides)
- Slides (PNGs)
- Exported Slides from PowerPoint; only needed if your PPT slides were not captured in your screen recording or if were altered after your screen recording
Recordings
- Zoom or DIY recordings (camera + screen recordings)
- Any other self-recorded video files
Important Workflow Rules
Keep each video self-contained.
- Do not mix files between lessons
- Do not store files outside their lesson folder. Every file should be stored in the lesson folder it pertains to.
- Always place files in the correct subfolder (B-Roll, Graphics > Animations, Graphics > Slides (PNGs), Recordings
Naming Convention Reminder
You will see folders labeled like:
- M1L1 = Module 1, Lesson 1
When creating new lessons:
- Duplicate template lesson folder (M#L#)
- Rename it using the correct M#L# format

Each folder will have a text file with guidance on naming conventions for each type of file.

When creating new modules (only needed if you have more than 8 modules; the first 8 have already been created for you):
- Duplicate template folder titled “Module # (duplicate me if needed)” and rename it using the correct Module# format

Best Practices
- Keep file names clear and consistent
- Place files in the correct folder immediately after creating or receiving them
- Do not delete or rename folders unless instructed
- Keep your working files organized – this directly impacts your editing experience
- Contact your Digital Media Producer with any questions
Summary
- Each lesson = one folder
- Each folder contains all assets for that video
- Stay consistent with structure and naming
- When in doubt, keep files with the lesson they belong to
