Faculty-Self Editing: Responsibilities & Tutorial
Overview
If faculty choose to add animations, stock images, B-roll, or zoom/highlight effects to Demonstration Videos after self-recording, they will be responsible for editing those elements into the video. Because Demonstration Videos tend to have a shorter shelf life and may need frequent updates, we encourage faculty to strongly consider whether these additions provide enough value to justify the extra editing time that will be required of them. Faculty can also consult with Digital Media staff about ways to incorporate these features during the recording session itself, allowing for these elements to be incorporated into the video without requiring faculty editing.
For videos that are self-recorded or recorded in the Wohlers Media Commons Studio, Digital Media staff will provide basic post-production editing when additional elements such as animations, stock images, B-roll, or zoom/highlight effects are not needed. This includes trimming the beginning and end of the recording, removing mistakes, adding appropriate Gies branding, and publishing the finished video in the appropriate location.
The below tutorial video provides step-by-step guidance for editing your content using the required folder structure and editing template, as well as submitting your completed files to Digital Media for final review and publication. Following this structure and template is essential to ensure Digital Media staff can efficiently review, finalize, and publish your content.
Please note that Digital Media staff are available throughout the editing process to provide support, troubleshoot issues, and answer any questions along the way.
