We encourage all University affiliates to use their provided campus mailbox to ensure all University email is properly delivered. By law, your @illinois.edu email is is subject to audit. This means that if you use your personal email account for @illinois.edu business, that account is also subject to audit. Similarly, if you use your University account for personal purposes, those emails are subject to audit as well.

We cannot control what happens to email when you forward or redirect it to another email provider. We've seen cases where email sent to @illinois.edu and redirected to another domain, e.g. @yahoo.com, has been tagged as spam by the receiving email domain. We are not responsible for missing mail to your personal email after it has been forwarded.
We recommend changing your email address at websites and social media networks to a personal non-forwarded email account as verification emails sent to your @illinois.edu address may not be forwarded. -

How to set up email forwarding
Follow these steps to change where your email messages are delivered.

Go to the Electronic Directory Editor (EDE) and log in with your NetID and password.
- Once you have logged into EDE, find the 'mail' field and enter the address depending on where you want email to go (see options below).
- NOTE: Make sure that you type this email address correctly, or you will not receive your email.
Important: Do not leave this field blank or you will not receive your email! DO NOT ENTER YOURNETID@ILLINOIS.EDU

- Click the Apply button at the top of the page to save your changes.
NOTE: Changes will take up to 4 hrs to take effect. Until then, you should check for emails in both the old and new locations.
Option 1: To receive email to your university Exchange account:
Enter: yournetid@mx.uillinois.edu(Faculty, staff, graduate and professional students with Exchange accounts, or undergraduates with Office 365 accounts).
Option 2 (Current Students Only): To receive email to your university Google Apps @ Illinois (Gmail) email inbox:
Enter: yournetid@g.illinois.edu
Option 3 (Current Students, Alumni, and Former Faculty/Staff): To receive email to your personal email address:
Enter: your personal email address (eg. jdoe@gmail.com)
