Guests, Creation, VPN Information for IT Professionals
If you're looking for information on how to install and configure VPN clients, see the VPN Installation Knowledge Base articles and select the operating system you need.
Guest account information for administrators
If your department or unit will be hosting guests to campus, having them self-register on IllinoisNet Guest WiFi is the simplest way to provide them with short-term network access.
For guests that need access to IllinoisNet, or a VPN connection, creating a departmentally sponsored short-term network guest accounts will get them that additional access.
For guests who will need longer-term access (more than a month), consider applying for a long term guest NetID instead. Guest accounts typically expire after 3 days; a NetID can be extended for as long as necessary.
NOTE: Creating an Active Directory User object will not grant VPN access. VPN access is provided either through short-term network guest accounts, or through a long-term guest NetID.
