Guests, Information for short-term network access (few days)
This page contains information for short-term guests and visitors to campus (i.e. people who are visiting for a few days).
What is a short-term guest account?
A short-term guest account allows you to have network and/or computer lab access while you are visiting campus for a short period of time, typically less than a week. The person or department sponsoring your visit can create one or more short-term guest account for you. Short-term guest accounts usually last for three days, but the account can be adjusted to match the length of your stay.

NOTE: If you will be a campus guest for longer than
a month, you would benefit from having a long-term account instead. A
long-term account, known as a guest NetID, can provide access to library
resources and campus email in addition to network access. Guests, Requesting a Long Term (sponsored) Guest NetID
Visitors can self register to use Campus WiFi by connecting to the IllinoisNet_Guest SSID and following the directions near the bottom of the page to register. This grants access for 24 hours, and can be renewed as needed. Any student, staff, or faculty member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign can create up to ten short-term accounts for three days for their personal guests to use the IllinoisNet_Guest SSID via the guest creation tool. These short term accounts grant the same access as a self-sponsored account. Authorized departmental representatives can create up to 1000 departmental sponsored guest accounts which have access to the IllinoisNet SSID and varying durations of up to one month. If you are attending a campus conference which requires access to the IllinoisNet SSID, your conference organizer will be responsible for creating and distributing guest accounts that are valid for the duration of your conference. If created by a departmental representative, your guest account name will resemble guest1#. Your password will be automatically generated by the Wireless Guest and Device Management Portal. If you lose or forget your password, ask the person who created your account to log in to the web interface and generate a new password for you. If you are working off campus and need a secure connection to the
campus network, you can use the campus Virtual Private Network (VPN)
system to connect.
In addition to the services described above, if you would like to
use the campus computer lab facilities, your sponsoring department can
arrange for you to receive a lab guest account in several campus
computer labs. Sponsoring departments can email info@ics.illinois.edu to request a short-term ICS Lab guest account. Computer Lab locations and hours Sponsoring departments should contact the department's

Departmental computer labs
Your sponsoring department may offer departmental computer labs. Check
with the staff at the lab you would like to use in order to determine
the lab's guest use options. Sponsoring departments whose computer labs
use Active Directory for authentication can arrange for you to have
short-term Active Directory accounts that will allow you access to the
department's labs.
