i-card, How to find your UIN

Your University Identification Number (UIN) is a 9-digit number that serves to uniquely identify your University account. It usually starts with a 6. If you were last affiliated with the University of Illinois before 1996, your account may not have a UIN assigned to it. If you don't know your UIN, there are a number of places you can look.

Your i-card

If you have a University of Illinois i-card, your UIN is printed below your name. Older cards may have the UIN printed on the back or included in the barcode instead.

Self-Service Registration

If you are a current or previous student who was assigned a NetID, you will likely be able to find your UIN in Self-Service:

  1. Navigate to https://apps.uillinois.edu/selfservice and click the logo of the campus you were last registered at.
  2. Sign in with your NetID and password. You will be able to sign in here even if your Illinois account is otherwise disabled.
  3. Click the profile icon in the upper right hand corner that has the initial of your first name
  4. Click on View Profile in the drop down menu that appears
  5. Your UIN will be present in the box that says School ID above the settings box

New Student Admission Emails

If you are a newly-admitted student, you should have been contacted at your personal email address with messages giving you your UIN and an activation code to claim your NetID.

If you have been admitted to Illinois but did not receive these messages, reach out to the Office of Admissions at admissions@illinois.edu or 217-333-0302.

If you are a recently admitted graduate student and did not receive these messages, reach out to the Graduate College at grad@illinois.edu

myIllini

If you are a newly admitted undergraduate student, your UIN will be at the top of your Admitted Checklist in the myIllini portal.

myIllini can be reached at https://myillini.illinois.edu/

If you are a newly admitted graduate student, your UIN will be found in your Official Notice of Admission letter, which can be found on your application status page

Find your UIN Tool

  1. Navigate to https://www.icard.uillinois.edu/public/uin-find.cfm
  2. Type your last name, the last 4 digits of your SSN or TCN, and your date of birth.
  3. Complete the reCAPTCHA.
  4. Click the Find my UIN button. If a matching record is found, the next page will show your UIN.
