Office 365, Leaving the University
Individuals that are no longer employed or enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are not eligible for the campus offering of Office 365. Once the deactivation occurs, downloaded Office Apps will require another form of activation and data stored within the Office 365 suite of services will become unavailable.
Office Apps:
If you downloaded and installed Office from Office 365, you will receive a prompt after deactivation that asks for you to Activate Office. You will either need to purchase an Office 365 account with Microsoft directly, or purchase a commercially available version of Office.
Office software will prompt with a warning that a license needs to be purchased from Microsoft to continue use.
Data in OneDrive:
Data should be downloaded or otherwise backed-up prior to deactivation.
You can download your data from OneDrive using OneDrive for Business Sync. Setup instructions are available here. To download items, you will use Sync to copy or move items to your local machine or flash drive using Windows Explorer.
A much slower option is to open and download each item in your OneDrive folders.
There is no migration path from the University of Illinois Office 365 OneDrive to a personal Microsoft OneDrive account without saving the data to a computer first.
Data in OneNote:
Unfortunately at this time there is no way to download or export your OneNote data directly from OneDrive Business. More information can be found here: (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/export-and-import-onenote-notebooks-a4b60da5-8f33-464e-b1ba-b95ce540f309).
