Canvas, Roster Uploads, Course Available

Overview of when student rosters are loaded into Canvas courses.

Class rosters are uploaded into Canvas course spaces every two hours, 24/7/365. Rosters begin loading into the Canvas space as soon as it has been created. 

If you are a student who has just registered for a course, dropped a course, or have been dropped/removed from a course (by Banner), it may take from 2 to 4 hours for the correct course information to appear in your Canvas course list. If it has been longer than 4 hours since you registered for a course, and you still do not see it listed, contact the Technology Services Help Desk.

Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Course Designers

Note: For Canvas spaces, the space must be published before students can have access to it. Read on to learn more about publishing a Canvas space at  Canvas, Publishing a course.

Students

You may not see an Canvas course space for a few reasons:
  • Your instructor may have hidden the course space from students while he or she adds course content.
  • The course space may not have been created yet. 
  • The course may not be taught on Canvas and is instead on Moodle (learn.illinois.edu). Check your instructor's syllabus to see if an alternate website is listed.
