Mathematics personal webpage information

Instructions for creating a personal webpage in the Math department

Overview

Every faculty and graduate student in the Math department has the option of hosting a personal webpage located at http://www.math.illinois.edu/~netid,
where netid is the university NetID.

A website consists of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files located in an individual's public_html directory on the departmental server: ssh.math.illinois.edu

At the very least your public_html folder should contain a file called index.html.

For help creating your website, please contact Tori Corkery, corkery@illinois.edu

For help uploading your website, please contact Math IT: math-it@illinois.edu

Uploading files

Caution: Off-campus, you will need to enable VPN

General settings

Regardless of which client you use to upload your files, you will want to create an SFTP connection to ssh.math.illinois.edu (port 22).

Windows

On windows we recommend using the Xftp client from NetSarang: https://www.netsarang.com/products/xfp_overview.html. Xftp 5 is free for educational use.

Mac

One option is to use the command line tool 'sftp.'

Another one is Fetch, available from the Webstore: https://webstore.illinois.edu/shop/product.aspx?zpid=1244
