Endpoint Services, MECM, Content Distribution Best Practices

Overview

This article describes best practices for distributing content for deployment with MECM.

Systems

Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)

Intended Audience

University of Illinois IT Pros leveraging MECM, hosted by Technology Services' Endpoint Services team

General Information

In order for content to reach an endpoint in MECM, the content needs to be distributed to a distribution point group, and then deployed to an endpoint that resides within an IP boundary group associated with that distribution point group.

IT Pros should always distribute content to their unit's distribution point group, rather than each distribution point individually, though storage and networking considerations may influence this decision.

IT Pros can manage their distribution points and their content in the "\Administration\Overview\Distribution Points" area of the MECM console, and view their IP boundaries under "\Administration\Overview\Hierarchy Configuration\Boundaries".

Content distribution status can be tracked under "\Monitoring\Overview\Distribution Status\Content Status".
