ACES Email Lists - Advanced - Hide an email list

Can an email list be hidden from the list of email lists?

Yes; an email list can be hidden. They can be set to be only visible to people logged in (the default), only to people on the list, or only to people that manage the list. Hiding a list does not change the ability for people to email the list.

If you would like an email list hidden, please request that by writing to aces-it-help@illinois.edu.

For email list service administrators

These are the steps taken by an email list service administrator to hide an email list:
Within the Sympa administration site:
  • Edit List Config
    • List definition
      • Set "Visibility of the list (visibility)" to "secret"
    • Privileges
      • Set "Who can review subscribers (review)" to "owner"
      • Set "Who can view list information (info)" to "conceal"
Email consult@illinois.edu to request the Exchange contact be hidden (based on https://answers.uillinois.edu/48049).
