How to Remove Seconds from the Clock in Windows
This guide explains how to remove the seconds display from the taskbar clock on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
For Windows 11
Option 1: Using Taskbar Settings
- Right-click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.
- Select Adjust date and time.
- Find the setting labeled Show time and date in the System Tray.
- Click the arrow next to this setting to expand options.
- Uncheck Show seconds in system tray clock.
- The seconds will no longer appear on your taskbar clock.
Option 2: Using Regional Settings
- Open the Start menu, search for Control Panel, and open it.
- Navigate to Clock and Region > Region.
- In the Region window, click Additional settings...
- In the Customize Format window, switch to the Time tab.
- Under Time formats, modify the Long time field by manually removing the seconds (:ss) portion. Click inside the field, place your cursor where the seconds (:ss) appear, and use the Backspace or Delete key to remove them.
Important: Do not use the dropdown arrow—there is no preset option that excludes seconds. The change must be made directly in the text field using your keyboard. - For example, change the format to: h:mm tt
- Click Apply, then OK to save your changes.
- Your taskbar clock will now display time without seconds.
For Windows 10
Note: Adding seconds back into the taskbar clock using this method in Windows 10 may not work as expected.
