Read&Write Multi-User License Troubleshooting
Read & Write Deployment Types
Read & Write has 2 deployment options:
- Single user sign-on
- Multi-user (used for exams)
For TAC testing machines the multi-user deployment option is best for configuring exam mode.
Common Issues
Users experience one or more of the following issues:
- Read&Write toolbar displays "Trial Mode" notification
- Read&Write asks your use "For Education" or "For Business"
- Limited toolbar functionality available
- Application prompts for sign-in
- Free trial countdown appears instead of full feature set
Examples:
Root Cause
Read&Write requires domain authentication configuration to recognize organizational licenses. When a domain is not registered with the Read&Write license, the application defaults to trial mode even for users with valid domain credentials.
Expected behavior

No manual sign-in with Microsoft/Google or workplace email is required when using a domain-enabled group/unlimited license.

Troubleshooting
Symptom: Full toolbar does not appear for any users
Troubleshooting steps: Verify license status and registered domain.
- When the toolbar opens, click the 3 lines on the far right -> Show more settings...
- General -> Scroll to the bottom to "Advanced settings" -> Run Diagnostics Tool
- A window will open with diagnostic info
Access steps for end users

Sign into Windows with your NetID & password (UOFI\username).

Launch Read&Write from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

Allow a few moments on first launch; Read&Write will check the domain against the licensing server and automatically allocate a seat if one is available.

Confirm that the full toolbar is visible and that no trial banner or countdown is displayed.
Verify full toolbar appears
- When the toolbar opens, click the 3 lines on the far right -> Show more settings...
- Confirm the full feature set is now available
- Trial mode notification should no longer appear
