Freer Hall 130 Classroom AV Instructions
Freer Hall 130 is equipped with audiovisual (AV) technology for classroom instruction and presentations, including:
- Room-provided desktop PC
- Projector
- Speakers
- HDMI cable
- VGA-to-USB-C adapter
- Headphone/audio cable
- Webcam
- AV control panel
Faculty, staff, and students who need AV setup assistance or training can submit a support request to helpdesk@ahs.illinois.edu.
Important: Please do not unplug or disconnect any permanent classroom equipment.
Turning the System On
- Locate the AV control panel inside the podium.
- Pull out the podium drawer to access the control panel.
- Press ON to turn on the AV system.
Using the Room Desktop PC — Recommended
The room-provided desktop PC is the recommended option for presentations.
- On the AV control panel, press PC.
- Wake the computer by moving the mouse or pressing a key.
- If the computer is powered off, press the power button on the desktop PC.
- Sign in using your NetID and password.
- Confirm that the computer's audio output is set to: Speakers/Headphones (Realtek® Audio)
- Use the volume knob on the AV control panel to adjust the room speaker volume.
- When finished, sign out of the computer. Do not shut down the computer.
Using Your Own Laptop with the Room Audio System
Use this option if you want to display your laptop through the projector and use the classroom speakers.
- On the AV control panel, press LAPTOP.
- Locate the sticker labeled “LAPTOP” on the podium.
- Connect the VGA-to-USB-C adapter to your laptop.
- Connect the headphone/audio cable to your laptop.
- Select the appropriate display/input setting on your laptop if needed.
- Use the volume knob on the AV control panel to adjust the room speaker volume.
Using Your Own Laptop with HDMI
Use this option if you only need to display content from your laptop and do not need to use the classroom speaker system.
- On the AV control panel, press HDMI.
- Locate the sticker labeled “HDMI” on the podium.
- Connect the HDMI cable to your laptop.
- Select the appropriate display/input setting on your laptop if needed.
Important: The HDMI connection currently does not provide audio through the classroom speakers. It can be used for displaying images, slides, and other visual content.
Turning the AV System Off
When you are finished using the classroom:
- If you used the room desktop PC, sign out of the computer. Do not shut it down.
- If you used your own laptop, disconnect your laptop from the classroom cables.
- Return the cables to their designated location inside the podium.
- Press OFF on the AV control panel to turn off the projector and AV system.
- Do not unplug any classroom equipment.
