On September 26th, Apple released macOS 14.0 (Sonoma), and AHS faculty and staff were informed to hold off on upgrading due to incompatibility issues with known software packages. Update only after verifying that all your required applications and peripherals will work on the new OS.

On September 26th, Apple released macOS 14.0 (Sonoma). Later that week, IT Partners @ AHS sent a notice to hold off on the macOS upgrade due to incompatibilities with popular software packages used on campus—for instance, SPSS, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite products, and Box plug-ins.

If you choose to update to Sonoma, you may have difficulty opening IBM SPSS Statistics and an older version of Adobe Creative Cloud suite due to a compatibility issue.

Adobe is still testing and optimizing its applications for the latest macOS. At this time, please review the list of versions of Adobe products compatible with Sonoma on their website

IBM SPSS recently released an interim fix that addresses this issue, which requires you to replace a file within the package contents. IT Partners @ AHS is available to assist with applying the fix. Additional information, along with the link to the fix, can be found on the macOS 14.0 IBM Support status page

It would be best not to upgrade until you have verified that all your required applications and peripherals will work with this new operating system. Experience with Apple OS upgrades shows that Apple typically releases its first three patches within a few months of the upgrade release. Most bugs have been discovered and fixed by the third patch, minimizing the risk of upgrading your operating system. Generally, we recommend waiting at least three months before applying a macOS update on primary Apple devices.
