Adobe Creative Cloud User Guide

This guide will demonstrate how to install, update, or uninstall Adobe Creative Cloud Applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and many more using the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.


How to sign in to Adobe Creative Cloud (Desktop App)

Note: You will only be prompted to sign into the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App if you are not currently signed into any Adobe applications. If you are signed in already, you will see a section of Installed applications and a section of applications Available in your plan.

  1. Find and launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App located on the Windows All Apps list, pinned to the Windows Start Menu, or by clicking the spyglass and typing Adobe Creative Cloud.

  2. Enter your NetID@illinois.edu email address.  Click Continue.

  3. If asked if you are signing in for work or home, click Work.  Click Continue.
  4. Sign in to the University Sign-on page using your NetID@illinois.edu email address. Click Next.

  5. Enter your NetID password and click Sign in.
  6. Confirm your identity using 2FA (2Factor) authentication.

  7. Click Yes, this is my device.

  8. Adobe Creative Cloud will continue to sign you in to your Adobe account.

  9. After you are signed in, you will see a section of Installed applications and a section of applications Available in your plan.

How to Install Adobe Creative Cloud Applications

  1. To Install an Adobe Creative Cloud Application, launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.
  2. Navigate to the section Available in your plan and browse the collection of available Adobe applications.

  3. If you wish to install an application, click the Install button below the application description.

  4. The application will show you the current progress on the installation. You can minimize the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App or close it.  It will not interrupt the update. (Admin override is not required).

  5. Once installed the application will appear in the list of Installed Applications in Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App. Click the Open button to launch the newly installed application.

  6. A shortcut for newly installed applications will also be located on the Windows Start Menu Apps List. Click to Launch.

How to Update Adobe Creative Cloud Applications

  1. To Update an Adobe Creative Cloud Application, launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App, and find the section Installed Applications.
  2. Click the Update available link for each application in order to update the collection of Installed Adobe applications.

  3. The Updates window will appear with a list of New updates available for applications and a list of Updated recently applications.

  4. Click the Update link to update your applications one at a time or click Update all link at the top right to perform all available updates.

  5. An Update prompt will appear with default options for updates. Set the selection boxes based on your preferences.  (We recommend removing old versions whenever possible.) Click Continue.

  6. The prompt will close and the application will begin to update. The status may be set to Waiting if more than one product requires updates.

  7. The status will be set to Updating once the update process begins. Please do not turn off the computer. You can minimize or close the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.  It will not interrupt the update.

  8. After the updates are complete, the application will now appear in the list of Updated recently applications.

How to Manage auto-updates for Adobe Creative Cloud Applications

  1. To manage the auto-update feature for Adobe applications click the Updates link in the left navigation of the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.

  2. Click the Manage auto-updates link the in upper right corner of the Updates window.

  3. Click the toggle button next to the application to turn auto-updates on or off for individual applications you have installed. Click Done.

How to Uninstall Adobe Creative Cloud Applications

  1. To Uninstall an Adobe Creative Cloud Application, launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App, and find the section Installed Applications.

  2. Click the ... ellipsis for each application you wish to Uninstall.

  3. A prompt requesting further action will appear. Please either select Remove or Keep to continue uninstalling the application.  Either option is acceptable.

  4. The status of the application will then change to Waiting.

  5. Once the uninstall process begins, the application status will change to Uninstalling.

  6. A restart may be required if you encounter this error Uninstalled failed during the uninstall.

  7. Clicking the Uninstalled failed status link will open a prompt.

  8. Please try restarting your computer before clicking the Retry button.
  9. After the application is uninstalled, it will be removed from your computer and the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App Installed application list.

How to change Notification settings

  1. Notifications for the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App can be adjusted by clicking your portrait in the upper right corner of the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App and clicking Preferences to view the app's General Settings window.

  2. Click Notifications to view all the enabled/disabled Notifications.

  3. Un-select any notifications you do not wish to receive.

  4. Click Done.
  5. These notifications will be available from the Bell icon in the upper right corner of your Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App. Note: This does not prevent notifications of updates/installs that you receive in the Windows notification area.

How to change the Appearance Settings

  1. The Dark or Light Color theme for Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App can be adjusted by clicking your portrait in the upper right corner of the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App and clicking Preferences to view the app's General Settings window.

  2. Click Appearances to view all the Color theme options for the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.

  3. Select the color theme choice. Select Dark for the Dark-themed color option.

  5. The Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App will now be Dark-themed.
