How to Move Mail, Calendar, and Other Icons Back to the Bottom in Outlook

In recent versions of Microsoft Outlook, the navigation icons (Mail, Calendar, People, etc.) have been moved from the bottom-left corner to a vertical bar on the left side. If you prefer the classic layout with icons at the bottom, this article will guide you through restoring that view.

Steps to Move Icons Back to the Bottom

For Outlook Desktop (Microsoft 365 / Outlook 2021+)

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click on File in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Options from the left-hand menu.
  4. In the Outlook Options window, go to the Advanced tab.
  5. Scroll down to the Outlook Panes section.
  6. Uncheck the box labeled:

    "Show Apps in Outlook"

  7. Click OK to apply the changes.
  8. Restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.

After restarting, the Mail, Calendar, People, and other icons should appear at the bottom-left corner, just like in older versions.

Notes

  • This setting is only available in certain builds of Outlook. If you don’t see the option, make sure your Outlook is up to date.
  • Microsoft may change or remove this option in future updates.
