Clearing the "Microsoft Office Activation Wizard" Notice

This page is intended to troubleshoot the notice from "Microsoft Office Activation Wizard: This copy of Microsoft Office is not activated." The simple solution is to close all of Office and connect to Cisco VPN for reactivation from our network; steps are detailed below.

  1. Close out of ALL Office programs (Outlook, Skype, Word, etc.)
  2. Open your Windows start menu
  3. Run the "Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client" VPN program
    • The first field of VPN server should read: vpn.cites.illinois.edu
    • Click the Connect button
    • Username: your netID
    • Password: your password
  4. Leave Cisco VPN running for a minute
  5. Check for Office reactivation by opening Word
    • Go to File on the top toolbar
    • Select Account on the left sidebar
    • Check for "Product Activated" under the Office logo
