Cisco VPN, How to connect

Some campus resources can only be reached from off campus when connecting your computer to the VPN with the Cisco Secure Client. This article shares those steps for Windows and Mac users. Linux users will follow the same steps, but screenshots are not provided here. Gies staff and faculty with computers off campus should connect to the VPN at least once a month to keep the computer healthy and minimize disruption to their work.

When logged in to a Windows or Mac computer, open the Cisco Secure Client application and follow these steps to connect to campus.

Note: if you cannot log in to Windows, try connecting to the VPN from the login screen by following the steps here.

If it is not already present, type the address vpn.illinois.edu in the address field.

Choose "1 Split Tunnel" for most uses. Choose "2 Tunnel All" when attempting to reach the U of I Library resources or the TED system from off-campus.

or

A login window will open. Enter your university email address and password to finish connecting.

The VPN will stay connected for 24 hours or until you disconnect it manually or turn the computer off.
