Web Browsers, Clear Cookies and Cache on Close

This article provides instructions on how to turn on a setting in web browsers, so that website data (sign-in sessions, cookies and cache) will be deleted when the browser is closed. This helps resolve issues about corrupted website data, failed website authentications, etc.

Before you start, check all your browser tabs and save your work. You will be signed out from all websites, and unsaved changes will be lost.

Choose the web browser that you use and proceed with the instructions below.

Google Chrome (Windows and macOS)

Open a new tab in Google Chrome. Paste the following link in the address bar and press Enter.

chrome://settings/content/siteData?search=on-device+site+data

Select the radio button "Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows".

Firefox (Windows and macOS)

Open a new tab in Firefox. Paste the following link in the address bar and press Enter.

about:preferences#privacy

Scroll down to the section "Cookies and Site Data".

Toggle on "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed".

Microsoft Edge (Windows and macOS)

Open a new tab in Microsoft Edge. Paste the following link in the address bar and press Enter.

edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose

Toggle on "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files".

Close the web browser. This setting will take effect from now on.
