ClassTech, Lecture Capture Troubleshooting
Potential Issues with a Lecture Capture Recording
No Microphone Audio on Recordings
Make sure the microphone is powered on with a good battery (at least two bars). You must use the microphone to record audio.
Low Audio Level or Poor Quality Audio
Make sure the microphone is positioned properly: Clip microphone at about the center of your chest at about the height of where the top of your shirt pocket is or would be.
No Camera Video Present on Recording
Confirm you turned the system on even if only using the white board.
Audio will usually record either way, but not the camera. Otherwise, contact Technology Services by emailing consult@illinois.edu or calling (217) 244-7000 to make a ticket with the Help Desk.
Blank Green Screen (Red, Orange or Error Message on Video)
Know that High Definition Copyright Protection is triggered by any of the following sources:
- Blu Ray Disc - will not record from the disc player, resident PC, or laptop. Be sure to close the application when done playing the disc so other content will record.
- Streaming Service (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) - will not record, be sure to close the application/browser when not in use so other content will record. Please note you will need to close the browser completely, not just close the tab. This is due to cached data from the steaming service that can still trigger HDCP.
- Audio Streaming Services like Spotify, etc. - will not record, be sure to close the application when not in use so other content will record.
- Portable Devices (MacBooks, laptops, iPads, iPhones, etc.) - may not record. IF that is the case, then you will need to use the resident PC for content.
No Content Video Present in Recording (Black Screen)
Make sure the correct video source is selected. - Note portable devices HDCP issues.
If the source was not a laptop, then contact Technology Services by emailing consult@illinois.edu or calling (217) 244-7000 to make a ticket with the Help Desk.
No Recordings in Mediaspace
The files that upload to Mediaspace are relatively large and take some time to process. Please allow a few hours after your lecture ends to check if the recording has uploaded correctly. On rare occasions, the recording devices run into errors that can cause the hardware to skip the scheduled recording. Please check with your departmental support and/or Technology Services consult@illinois.edu or call (217) 244-7000 to see if this was the case.
If the issue is not listed above, then please contact Technology Services Help Desk at (217) 244-7000 or consult@illinois.edu
