iSchool Rooms: How to Use the Built-In Computer

This a guide to using the built-in computer consoles in 501 E. Daniel St. and 614 E. Daniel St.

Built-in Computer Guide

Using the built-in computer is the recommended method for operating conference rooms, especially for Zoom calls, as it is the only device connected to the built-in microphone and cameras in rooms equipped with them.

  • Turn on both the built-in computer and the room display screen.
    • Use the keyboard and mouse, which are usually located on top of the cabinet or on the conference room table.
    • If they are not responsive, check that they are powered on using their power switches.
    • These devices have limited range, if they only work near the receiver but not elsewhere in the room, you may be out of range.
  • Move the mouse on the desk or cabinet to wake up the screen.
  • On startup, select either the Windows or Mac interface.
  • Log in using your NetID and password.
    • Guests will not be able to log in to these computers.

In the case of rooms 126 and 53, how to operate the built-in computer slightly differs.

Room 53 Specific Instruction

  • Check that the Built-in input (1) is selected in the equipment cage.
  • Ensure the built-in computer and monitor are both turned on.
  • Use the wired keyboard and mouse located on top of the desk by the monitor or the side table next to the built-in computer.
  • Select Windows or Mac and then log in using your NetID and password.

Room 126 Specific Instruction

The steps for using the Built-in PC, an External Laptop, or the Blu-Ray / DVD player all follow a similar pattern. You will select your source from the Home screen on the Control Panel under Video Source Selection and then be taken to the Audio Mixer screen, which will be explained in more detail in a section below.

Built-in PC: The built-in PC in Room 126 has two computers. When you press the "Built-in PC" button, two options will appear, allowing you to choose either a Windows or a Mac computer. Your selection determines which computer in the console is activated. Once selected, the camera, microphones, keyboard, and mouse are automatically synced, giving you full control over all devices.

Built in Option

NOTE: All built-in computers in rooms located in the 501 E. Daniel building support dual-boot (Windows and macOS).

However, all rooms in the 614 E. Daniel building have built-in Mac computers except Rooms 4018 and 4031, which have just televisions instead.

If you cannot locate the mouse and keyboard or if you suspect the batteries are low, please contact the Help Desk at 217-244-4903 / 800-377-1892 or ischool-support@illinois.edu
