Help Desk, CITL Process for Non-Degree Student Registration

The NetID claim process for non-degree students will differ from the standard NetID claim process for standard undergraduate students.

The Office of the Registrar allows students to enroll in non-degree online classes. When students apply for non-degree enrollment, the Registrar follows an admissions and enrollment process before allowing non-degree students to join classes at the University of Illinois.

Enrollment

All non-degree seeking students should register for courses through the Office of the Registrar.

Account Setup

After enrolling in a non-degree program, the Office of the Registrar will send you a Confirmation of Enrollment email message. This message will be sent to the email address you provided during registration. This Confirmation of Enrollment letter will include your University Identification Number (UIN), NetID activation token, and instructions for claiming your NetID.

Instructions for the NetID claim website can be found here: NetID Claim, How to Claim for Students.

Note: If you are returning to Illinois (e.g. you were previously a student or staff member), you will already have a NetID. However, the NetID claim process will still need to be completed to reactivate your account.

Once the Office of the Registrar receives the registration request, they must obtain approval from the department before they can admit and enroll the student.

  • Be advised this can take some time depending on how quickly the department responds.
  • This delay is a common reason why you may not have heard back from the Registrar. It usually means your enrollment status is currently "Pending".
  • Once approval is received from the department, you will be admitted by the Registrar and enrolled in your classes for the current term.
