CS 225 SSH environment

This article provides steps for CS 225 students to connect to a separate SSH environment specifically configured for CS 225's activities. Since the CS 225 assignments require significant resources that the College's remote Linux service cannot support, CS 225 students must connect to this resource instead to complete their assignments.

Connect to the CS 225 SSH environment

  1. Follow this guide to connect to the campus VPN

  2. If you are using VS Code:
    • Right-click this link and select 'Save link as' to download the 'ssh_config' file
    • In VS Code, press F1 to open the 'Command Palette' and select 'Remote-SSH: Open Configuration File'
    • Select the 'ssh_config' file that was just downloaded
    • will appear in the list of hosts when you select Remote-SSH: Connect to Host... from the Command Palette (F1) or in the SSH Targets section of the Remote Explorer

  3. If you are using a terminal, input your NetID into the following line and run the command to connect:
    • ssh -o ConnectTimeout=2

  4. If the connection attempt fails, try running the command again.

  5. If you cannot connect after multiple attempts, disconnect from the VPN, and select the ‘3_TunnelAll’ profile before connecting to the VPN again.  Try the command in the previous step again.
