EWS Labs, Office Macros

Summary

This article describes how Microsoft Office macros can be utilized in the EWS Windows environment.

Context

Due to various vulnerabilities with Microsoft Office's macro functionality, the ability to use these has been restricted in the EWS Windows environment. However, we recognize that in some cases macros are useful and necessary, and we are also not staffed to evaluate and approve every request to use Office macros as they come in.

Using Office Macros

All EWS labs are configured with a policy to allow macros to be run from a specific folder path, specifically:

C:\macrosenabled

If this folder does not exist, any user of the EWS labs should be able to create it. Once created, copy your macro-enabled Office file (e.g. .docm, xlsm, etc.) into the folder to use and edit macros as needed.

Please note this is a directory on the local drive. If you wish to continue working on the file from another computer, make sure to copy it to OneDrive (See: EWS Labs, Access OneDrive) or other external storage before logging out!
