Emailing All Students In a Course using Class Tools
A quick guide to using the Class Tools campus application from Engineering IT to send emails to all students in a course or multiple sections of a course simultaneously.
One way to email to all students in your class simultaneously is via Class Tools, an Engineering IT-built application available to all Illinois colleges and departments with the ability to email all students in your classes.
- In Class Tools, you should see all classes where you are currently listed as Instructor of Record. Under each listed course rubric, you will see options to "View Roster," "Email students," and "Edit staff/class staff." To email all students in a given course rubric (i.e., course number), click "Email students/class staff" directly under that course's rubric as shown below.

- The Class Tools "Send Mail" screen now appears. At upper left, you will see a checkbox for each listed section of the parent rubric. There is also a separate section below the student-populated sections to select any class staff groups that should also receive the mass mailing. (Class staff can be edited under Class Tools' "Edit staff" application as needed.)

- On the right side of the Send Mail screen, you may add a Subject line to your mass mailing, then craft your message in the Body editing window. You can also upload documents for attachment to the mass mail, using the "Browse..." button in the Linked Documents section under the Body editing window.
- Additional email addresses may be added to the mass mailing through the CC: field. Note that these CC:'d email addresses may be visible to all recipients of the resulting massmail.

- When your message is ready to send to all selected sections and class staff groups, simply hit Send at upper right of the Send Mail screen. Additional messages can be sent as needed by clicking "Email students/class staff" for the appropriate rubric in the main Class Tools screen.
