Siebel Center Swiping into Rooms

This document will highlight some common causes and issues of not being able to swipe into the rooms at the Siebel Center.

When you're unable to swipe into a room at the Siebel Center, there are a couple things to look into...

  • i-Card Swipe
    • DO
      • Keep magnetic stripe on the right side of the card reader
      • Make sure magnetic stripe touches the card reader all the way through
        • Swipe downwards (Bottom of the card should touch top of card reader first)
      • Swipe in one swift motion
      • Replace i-Card if there are physical damages at the Illini Union Bookstore
    • DO NOT
      • Bend the card when swiping
      • Start swiping on the middle of the card reader

  • New i-Card number
    • If you've recently received a new i-Card, please allow one full business day for the card number to update in the system 
    • Once the card number is updated, your old access should be restored
