Overview
Follow these steps to identify network performance issues when accessing UIUC resources from China. This is intended to be a self-service troubleshooting guide due to the variance in home networking configurations.Test network performance
- Run the network tests at https://fast.com/zh/cn/ and https://www.speedtest.net/zh-Hans; record the download speed, upload speed, and latency
- If third-party anti-virus or firewall software is installed, disable the software and run the same network tests; record the download speed, upload speed, and latency
- If third-party anti-virus or firewall software is installed, disable the software and run the same network tests; record the download speed, upload speed, and latency
- Connect to the UIUC VPN and select the '3_TunnelAll' profile, then run the same network tests
- If third-party anti-virus or firewall software is installed, disable the software and run the same network tests; record the download speed, upload speed, and latency
- If third-party anti-virus or firewall software is installed, disable the software and run the same network tests; record the download speed, upload speed, and latency
- If disabling the anti-virus/firewall software improves network performance, you may need to find alternate software or ensure the software allows traffic to campus networking
- Ensure the modem or router used in your home networking is configured to allow traffic to campus networking
