Apple Inc. (Mac)(iPad) - Adapter Access Management

This article includes directions on how to adjust Connection Settings on Apple Mac computers, iPad tablets, & iPhones, when connecting USB and Thunderbolt adapters in classrooms and conference rooms.

Mac Computers

When you attach an unknown accessory (USB or Thunderbolt) to a Mac laptop, the default configuration asks you to allow new accessories. (When you attach an unknown accessory (USB or Thunderbolt) to a locked Mac, you are prompted to unlock the Mac.)

                                                                           Allow to Connect? Yes/No

To enable/disable these settings you must go to:

System Setting > Security & Privacy > Security

 2.Security & Privacy
Go to Privacy & Security, then Scroll Down

3.Security
Scroll Down to "Allow accessories to connect" 

4.Scroll down until you see the "Allow accessories to connect" drop down and choose one of the following:

  • Ask every time
  • Ask for new accessories
  • Automatically when unlocked
  • Always

Select one of the four options


Approved accessories can be connected to a locked Mac for up to 3 days from when the Mac was last locked.

  • Any accessory attached after 3 days prompts you to “Unlock to use accessories.”

iPhone and iPad

When you attach an unknown accessory (USB or Thunderbolt) to a iPhone or iPad, the default configuration asks you to allow new accessories.

Any further connections with the same host computer are automatically trusted going forward.

Users can clear pairing trust relationships by going to 

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy

General>Reset - iPhone General>Reset - iPad

3.Reset
Reset - iPhone General>Reset - iPad

4.Reset Location & Privacy
Reset Location and Privacy - iPhone Reset Location and Privacy - iPad

5.Enter Passcode
Enter Passcode - iPhone Enter Passcode - iPad

6.Confirm Reset
Confirm Reset - iPhone Confirm Reset - iPad

or

by erasing their device.

Additionally, these trust records are removed if they’re unused for 30 days.
