ATLAS Data Services Center - Background and General Concepts

This page provides basic info and background on the ATLAS DSC

Background

Since Banner was first implemented, ATLAS has been working to provide stakeholders with accurate and timely data that meets their individual access needs. Initially, the ATLAS Report Delivery System was the channel used to support these requests. This system allowed individuals needing data to pull their own reports with as few dropdowns as possible.

ATLAS has now expanded this effort with the Data Services Center (DSC). The DSC provides a single website where anyone with a University NetID can gain access to the data and reports that they have access to for their role. The DSC gives data providers across the university the ability to register their reports and share them easily with the relevant parties.

Key terms/concepts

DSC User - Anyone with a University NetID can be a DSC user. Simply log in to the DSC with your NetID, and you will be presented with a Home page showing the Report categories that you are authorized to view, based on your position. Follow the links to explore these categories in greater detail.

Report Discovery - This is the process of a user finding new reports on the DSC, based on their information needs. Learn more about the ATLAS Data Services Center - How to Search Reports of the DSC in Knowledge Base.

Data Provider - Any University area that needs to share data with other areas. University Data Providers can use the DSC to make their reports easily accessible to an audience of those authorized to view them. To register as a DSC Data Provider, email atlas-apps@illinois.edu and ask for Data Provider access. The ATLAS team will provide guidance on the process.
