ATLAS FormBuilder - Test Email Mode Explained

This document explains the meaning of placing a FormBuilder form into test email mode, and how to do so.

By default, all FormBuilder forms have the ability to send out emails to any valid email address through their routing triggers (learn more about this feature at ATLAS FormBuilder - Routing Actions Explained). While this feature is useful by itself, it can cause trouble when attempting to fill out test responses to a form, as all email triggers will continue to send to their listed recipients unless they are disabled.

Thankfully, the headache of readdressing or disabling email triggers for testing purposes can be avoided by using placing your form in "Test Email Mode." While a form is in this mode, any routing triggers that send emails will send them to a single "testing" email address, which can be customized ahead of time. This allows administrators to view a form's email output and prevent emails from going out to their usual recipients -- without touching the form's inner workings.

To place a form in Test Email Mode...

First, navigate to your form's dashboard and click Manage in the header for the "Form Properties" section.

Once on the "Properties" page for your form, click the checkbox labeled Test Email Mode. Additional options will appear.

You will be presented with two options to use for the form's testing email address. The first option uses the default testing email address configured at the form group level. For information on how to change this default address, visit ATLAS FormBuilder - Edit Form Group Information: Group Name/Testing Email/Contact Information.

The second option will allow you to enter a custom email address to which test emails will be sent. The entered email address can be changed at any time.

Once you're finished making changes, click the green Save button at the bottom of the page.

After saving, Test Email Mode will have been activated for your form, and you can begin filling out test responses in the survey view without fear of emails being sent to their normal recipients.
