Learn@Illinois Moodle - Adding the Moodle LTI to a Canvas Site

For a permanent link to this information, please use: https://go.illinois.edu/AddMoodleLTI

We are excited to transition to an automated, self-service process to add the Moodle LTI to your Canvas course sites. Since ATLAS TLT staff will no longer need to create and link your LTIs manually, your content will be available faster, and our staff can spend more time assisting you.

Below we have three sets of instructions for three scenarios for adding the Moodle LTI:

  • New to the LTI: For Canvas courses that have not used the Moodle LTI before.
  • Course Reuse: For Canvas courses that have already used the Moodle LTI in a previous version and wish to reuse the same content.
  • Adding Additional Content: When you already have a Canvas site using the individual activity LTI, but you wish to add a new Moodle activity to it.

We are happy to assist with any part of this process, just email us at atlas-tlt@illinois.edu

  1. Request a Canvas site at https://go.illinois.edu/sra.

  9. Once you get the confirmation email that your course has been created, navigate back to your Canvas site and repeat steps 3-5.

  10. Now, after you select the Moodle external tool, the LTI Picker will display a list of your available content. Select the LTI content you wish to add.

    1. IMPORTANT: If you want to use the entire course LTI, ONLY select the checkboxes next to the bolded title of the course. DO NOT select any individual activities.

Please note that you must launch the Course Request System from each individual Canvas course in order for the requested content to be connected to that Canvas site. Do not navigate to the Course Request homepage and submit requests for additional courses from there.
