Remote Access to Vetstar and PACS Imaging

Please use the instructions below to configure and to connect to Vetstar and PACS from a personal laptop/desktop. Note: If you previously logged into Dino via a VPN connetion, you many continue to do so.

Ensure you are connected to the internet. If you are on campus, can connect to IllinoisNet. IllinoisNet Wireless Connection Instructions: Technology Services Wi-Fi Help Portal Page - Start Here

Windows Instructions

  1. Download and save to your computer: DinoforWindows.rdp
  2.  Navigate to where you saved the Dino for Windows.rdp file, and launch it.
  3. A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to connect. Check the Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer box
  4. Select Connect
  5. When prompted to enter your credentials type uofi\NetID and your NetID password (campus email password)
  6. Select Remember my credentials
  7. Select OK
  8. A final box will show up asking to confirm the certificate. Check the Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer box
  9. Select Yes
  10. You are now on the Dino desktop and can access Vetstar or PACS from the shortcuts

Note: Lenovo Yoga, Microsoft Surface Pros and potentially other machines with 4K displays may display an extremely small desktop (icons, print, etc.) when logging into dino.  You will need to install Remote Desktop Manager from here: InstallationFile-RemoteDesktopManagerFree2.6.4.0 and follow the instructions below. 

  1. Once downloaded use the default selections for "Typical" installation until it is installed.  
  2. Leave Launch Remote Desktop Manager Free checked and select Finish
  3. Select Skip this Version if asked (Do NOT update to the latest version, ever.)
  4. Select Create a free account and complete the registration.
  5. Select File
  6. Select Import
  7. Under the right column labeled Import from, choose RDP Configuration (.rdp)
  8. Navigate to your downloads folder and select DinoforWindows.rdp 
  9. Select Open
  10. With Import in root chosen select OK
  11. Select Import RDP content and select OK 
  12. Expand Local Data Source and double click DinoforWindows
  13. A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to connect. Check the Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer box
  14. Select Connect
  15. When prompted to enter your credentials type uofi\NetID and your NetID password (campus email password)
  16. Select Remember my credentials
  17. Select OK
  18. A final box will show up asking to confirm the certificate. Check the Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer box
  19. Select Yes
  20. You are now on the Dino desktop and can access Vetstar or PACS from the shortcuts
If the icons are still small:
  1. Launch Remote Desktop Manager Free 
  2. Expand Local Data Source and select DinoforWindows 
  3. Select Properties (Orange Pencil) 
  4. On the General Tab 
  5. Change Display from Enbedded(tabbed) to Undocked 
  6. Select the Display Tab 
  7. Change the Screen sizing mode from Scrollbar to Smart Sizing (Try to login again and see if the icons are larger)
If the icons are still too small:
  1. Launch Remote Desktop Manager Free
  2. Expand Local Data Source and select DinoforWindows
  3. Select Properties (Orange Pencil)
  4. Select the Display Tab
  5. In the drop down labeled Full screen choose different selections until the screen size suites your preference

Apple Instructions

Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client 10 from the Mac App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417

Note: If you do not have an Apple ID established please follow select Create Apple ID and follow the instructions.

  1. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop. It can be found in Launchpad or in Applications > Microsoft Remote Desktop
  2. Under the General Tab, enter the following information:

  • Connection name: Dino
  • PC name: dino.vetmed.illinois.edu
    • User name: uofi\NetID
    • Password: Enter your NetID password (campus email password)
    • Resolution: Native
    • Colors: True Color (24bit)
    • Full screen mode: OS X native
    • Check the boxes: Start session in full screen and Use all monitors
  • Select the Gateway drop down, select the + sign in the bottom left corner
  • Select Add gateway and fill in the following information:
    • Gateway name: Illinois Gateway
    • Server: rdpgateway.illinois.edu
    • User name: uofi\NetID
    • Password: Enter your NetID password (campus email password) 

3. Close the gateway window
4. Select Illinois Gateway from the Gateway drop-down menu in the configuration window
5. Close the remote desktop configuration window
6. Dino will be listed under My Desktops
7. Double click on Dino in Microsoft Remote Desktop to launch the Dino desktop
  8. Select Vetstar or PACS from the Desktop shortcuts
