Policy
The standard markup for items sold from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital storeroom will be 5% over the cost of the item. Items provided to the storeroom at no charge will be free to the service areas in the hospital. The service area will charge clients based upon the pricing policies.
Guidelines
As of 7/1/2009, the storeroom pricing procedure will change from value plus 10% to 50% to cost plus 5%. Likewise, items provided to the Storeroom at no cost by vendors will be provided to service areas at no cost. All VTH units will be charged cost plus 5% for purchases from the Medication Dispensary or from the storeroom.
Procedure (if applicable)
At the time of purchase, the acquisition price of individual items sold by the storeroom will be updated in the inventory system. The storeroom point of sale system will automatically add the 5% markup when products are purchased from the storeroom. All items used in clinical practice should be ordered and sold by the storeroom with the following exceptions: orders placed with McKesson and all controlled substances (ordered by VTH Medication Dispensary); specialty items used by a service or items for research purposes (ordered by the user).
Definitions (if applicable)
Cost: Actual price per item as shown on the wholesaler/distributor's invoice at the time of purchase (including shipment costs if any).
Specialty Items: Drugs or supplies rarely ordered or needed
