NetID Change, Merging multiple NetIDs
If you are affiliated with multiple University of Illinois campuses (Chicago, Urbana, Springfield), you may have different NetIDs. These are often the same, but in the event that they are not, you have several options. This also applies if your NetID differs from your Enterprise ID.
If you DO wish to merge your identities, you can choose to use one of the following:
-
Your Enterprise ID (particularly in cases where your NetID has a hyphen)
-
A newly generated NetID
-
Your NetID from another campus (as long as it does not also have a hyphen)
-
You can choose to schedule your NetID change in advance (for example, a time you will be out of the office)
NOTE: At this time, UIS NetIDs cannot be changed.
When going through a NetID change, please be aware of the following:
-
It could take up to 2 weeks for all University systems to sync with the new NetID
-
You may have trouble logging into some systems (course registration, Compass, email) until the changes are fully completed
-
We have no control over services and systems outside of Technology Services
-
We'll be unable to intervene in any systems that you're having trouble logging into until the change is fully complete
-
If you are changing from a hyphenated NetID to a non-hyphenated one, mail to your hyphenated NetID will be forwarded to your new one indefinitely.
You may put in a request to change your NetID by contacting the Help Desk at consult@illinois.edu or by calling 217-244-7000.
It is not encouraged, but if you do NOT wish to merge your NetIDs, please be aware that you will have to manage multiple passwords through multiple logins in the NetID Center.
-
For example, if your campus NetID is hyphenated and you do not want to change it, you will have separate passwords and you will have to manage those separately.
