Recommendations for using technology in classrooms fall 2020
This is a summary of information for teaching with technology using lecture capture, Zoom, or Skype for Business in a General Assignment classroom.
Zoom or Skype for Business
Some classrooms are equipped with lecture capture hardware. Please refer to Fall 2020 Technology Enhanced Classrooms In Use to determine if the classrooms you are teaching in are equipped with lecture capture equipment. If so, then please schedule your recording here: http://go.illinois.edu/LectureCaptureScheduling
Know your microphone
Every general inventory classroom has at least one microphone for the instructor to use for Zoom, Skype for Business sessions, and/or classroom recordings (lecture capture). Refer to Fall 2020 Technology Enhanced Classrooms In Use to determine which microphones are available in each classroom you will be using. If there is no microphone for use with Zoom or Skype for Business listed, then there will be a USB microphone plugged into the resident PC in the classroom for that purpose.
- Wireless (lavalier and handheld) microphones are available in some classrooms for use with either lecture capture, Zoom, or Skype for business and provide premium audio clarity of the instructor's voice. When using a lavalier microphone, attach the microphone near the base of your neck ( on your face mask) for best results.
- USB microphones are available in any classroom that doesn't have a wireless microphone for use with Skype for Business or Zoom listed. Please note, some rooms have both a wireless microphone for use with lecture capture and a USB microphone for use with Zoom or Skype for Business.
