Canvas@Illinois , Conclude and restore student enrollments in a course
Occasionally it may be necessary to manually add or remove individual student enrollments in a course. Teachers can do this in Canvas by following these steps:
Following a change to Canvas enrollment handling in June, 2023, for registrar-enabled courses, it may be necessary to request restore of any student enrollment that does not appear in the "Previous Enrollments" section of the People tab in your course. See "Re-activate" below for additional info.
Deactivate (conclude) student in a course:
- Navigate to the People menu in your course
- Locate the student you want to "deactivate"
- Click on the student's full name under the "Name" column
- This opens a context menu on the right-hand side of the page
- Click on the student's full name again
- This takes you to the students contact page within the course
- Click Conclude in the Memberships section
- This removes the student from the course along with any work produced in the course
- Confirm that you want to conclude the student in the course
Re-activate (restore) student in a course:
- Navigate to the People menu in your course
- Add /prior to the end of the URL in the browser
- Find the student you need to restore and click their name
- NOTE: do NOT click the "Total" number in the same row as their name
- Click Restore in the Memberships section
- Navigate back to the People menu in the course confirm that the student is again a member
NOTE: if the student does NOT appear in the "Previous Enrollments" section of the People tab, AND the student's membership in the registrar-affiliated course has been confirmed through Banner, please put in a support ticked with Canvas@Illinois Operations, requesting that the student be restored in the course
