Canvas@Illinois , Use Emojis in Speedgrader and Gradebook

Teachers now have the option to add emojis to graded elements in Canvas, and students can use emojis in comment replies.

Teachers have the option to enable the use of emojis in Speedgrader and Gradebook comments in Canvas courses. Note: This feature is not enabled by default, and teachers must enable it in each Canvas course they want the feature to be active. The steps below explain how to enable emoji commenting:

  1. In your course, select Settings (A) from the course menu.

  2. Select the Feature Options (B) tab.

  3. Locate the Emojis in Submission Comments (C) feature option.

  4. Select Enabled (D) link.

Adding Emoji Comments

When this feature option is enabled, instructors can add emojis to comments in SpeedGrader using the emoji icon available in the comment box.

Instructors and students can add emojis in comments added in the context tray from Gradebook.

Students can add emojis to comments added to their submissions.

Note: Canvas has removed emojis from the library that may be deemed inappropriate for use.
